Provider Background
I am a life long resident of Elgin, Illinois. I am a single woman with two children of my own. My son was born in 1999 and my daughter was born in 2005.
Prior to becoming a family child care provider I was a Police Office for the city of Elgin for 13 years. My duties as a police officer were many. My favorite and most memorable duty was my time spent in the Elgin grade schools presenting the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program to the students.
It was a thrill and an honor to be serving the people of Elgin as a police officer. However, in 2003 I did resign my position with the city in order to spend more time with my 3 year old son and provide him a more consistent schedule. This was the beginning of my family child care business.
In 2005 I adopted an infant girl from Guatemala. She is my Little Sunshine! I then changed the name of my day care after her--Sunshine Child Care.
Sunshine Child Care Information
My Child Care is licensed by the State of Illinois, which includes criminal background checks, CPR certification, and Basic First Aid training. I belong to professional child care organizations and regularly attend child care conferences and training classes to upgrade my skills as a family child care provider. My child care participates in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). This is a nutrition program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.
